How the Lieutenancy Can Help You

There are ways in which the Lieutenancy can help you or your organisation, or be of service to the community:

  • Accepting suggestions for the attendance at Royal Garden Parties of individuals deserving recognition.
  • Arranging for the Lieutenancy to visit your organisation as a means to acknowledge the work being done.
  • Following a visit by the Lieutenancy, suggesting how the organisation might be included in the programme of a visiting member of the Royal Family to the county.
  • Advising on procedures and nominations for the Kings's Award for Voluntary Service.
  • Giving advice on how any member of the public can make a nomination for a national honour; offering advice on the completion of the forms and supporting the honours nomination when referred back to the Lord-Lieutenant for comment.
  • Celebrating and encouraging volunteering, community service and the work of youth organisations.
  • Helping to promote your organisation, where appropriate, in media releases or speeches to assist with profile, recognition and fundraising.
  • Where deemed appropriate, and most likely in connection with a Lieutenancy visit, generating media coverage of an organisation's work.

Royal Visits

A Royal Visit is a very special occasion and can celebrate the achievements of local charities, business and communities. The Lieutenancy can offer advice on invitations to the Royal Family, and is responsible for the overall planning of a visit to the area.
Royal Garden Parties

Every summer, The King hosts Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace as a way of rewarding and recognising public service. The Lieutenancy nominates individuals to attend, drawn from all walks of life within the Lieutenancy area.
Royal Telegrams

Since its initiation in 1917, the Sovereign sends congratulatory messages to people celebrating notable birthdays and anniversaries. Receiving a congratulatory card from The King to mark a significant birthday adds to the special celebrations.
Lieutenancy Visits

The East Riding of Yorkshire Lieutenancy are keen to support the many charities, voluntary groups and business by attending events, including voluntary and charity initiatives, award ceremonies and community functions of local significance.
